On Friday, October 9, OpenAI flagged a major incident in the ChatGPT Android app, a day after users say copying ChatGPT answers into Word and Google Docs stopped keeping bold and italics.

If you opened ChatGPT on an Android phone on Friday and got a message instead of your answer, you weren't imagining it. At 2:00 PM Pacific on October 9, OpenAI's status page posted an incident titled "Some ChatGPT content may be unavailable on Android" and rated it major.
The update says users of the Android app may see "This content is unavailable in this version of the app" where certain content should be. OpenAI says a fix is rolling out gradually in the latest Android version, and in the meantime it told people to use ChatGPT on the web. In other words, if your phone hasn't pulled the newest build yet, the app you pay for can't show you some of what it wrote.
That's the second ChatGPT problem on the status page this week that was big enough to get the major label. On Tuesday night, October 6, Pacific time, OpenAI logged "Unable to create new ChatGPT Work threads in latest version of desktop app," also rated major. And early on October 8 UTC, which was Wednesday evening in California, it logged errors for some APAC users in ChatGPT Work, conversations and GPTs before marking it resolved about an hour and a half later.
This one isn't on the status page. On the OpenAI Community forum, a user posting as JuniperLeaf wrote early Friday that starting around October 8, copying new ChatGPT answers into Microsoft Word or Google Docs stopped keeping bold, italic and bold italic text. Headings and lists still come through, the post says, but the inline formatting disappears.
The user says they ruled out the usual suspects: two computers, several browsers, extensions turned off, the built in Copy button and plain Ctrl+C all gave the same result. The detail that points at OpenAI is that answers generated before October 8 still copy with their formatting, while new ones don't. The title of the thread calls it "Redux," because this has broken before.
If you write reports or school work in ChatGPT and paste them into a document, that means going back through and bolding things by hand until it's fixed. OpenAI hasn't acknowledged the formatting problem publicly as of Friday afternoon.
For the Android problem, update the app from the Play Store and, if the message stays, use chatgpt.com in your browser, which is OpenAI's own advice. For the formatting problem there's no official workaround yet. We'll keep tracking both on the status tracker.
